Mr. Ashwin Sanghi talks about how his creativity was inspired by connections and shows how anyone can be creative if they are simply more observant. Covering aspects as diverse as history, mythology and science, Mr. Sanghi will take you through a fascinating presentation that is meant to inspire the creative spirit within you.

Mr. Ashwin Sanghi ranks among India's highest-selling authors of English fiction. He has written several bestsellers (The Rozabal Line, Chanakya's Chant, The Krishna Key, The Sialkot Saga) and a New York Times bestselling crime thriller called Private India (followed by Private Delhi) together with James Patterson. World over, a growing number of women are starting or running businesses. They have, for long, been proactively contributing towards diverse sectors. The trend clearly reflects that women have been creating jobs for unskilled and fostering the underprivileged. India is gradually recognizing that women are vital agents of direct social transformation. Rather than leaving societal needs to the government or business sectors, they are solving the problem by changing the system.

IMC Ladies’ Wing invites you for the panel discussion on “Women Leaders – Creating Oppurtunies” with two of the most renowned Social Entrepreneurs:

    • Ms. Sonali Saini, Founder Director, Sol’s ARC – She has worked extensively on curriculum and pedagogy development for children with special needs for more than 20 years. Her vision is to create equal opportunities for all children across abilities. Under her leadership Sol’s Arc has grown and become the first organization to scale in the special education sector.
    • Ms. Revathi Roy, Co-Founder, CEO, Hey Deedee - Serial entrepreneur, Revathi pioneered the first ever women’s taxi service in Asia creating brands like FORSCHE and VIIRA. Winner of NITI AAYOG’s Women Transforming India Awards – 2016, she is now focusing on her new venture, Hey Deedee® – the first ever all women instant parcel delivery service.

The session will be moderated by Ms. Gayati Nair Lobo and they will highlight how social entrepreneurs can help in alleviating several social issues by putting those less fortunate on a path towards a worthwhile life.

  • Animals Care and welfare – 22nd January 2020

Animals Care and welfare – 22nd January 2020

    Day:       Wednesday
    Time:   3:30 p.m.
Venue:   Walchand Hirachand Hall, 4th floor, IMC Building, Churchgate, Mumbai – 400020

Since early civilisation, animals have been an integral part of human experience. We have domesticated them for both agriculture and companionship. However, over time our kinship with them has morphed into abuse in which the welfare of animals is highly compromised. It has now become common practice to inflict cruelty upon them.

People fail to understand that the voiceless animals are living beings who feel the same amount of pain and sadness as humans, and in some cases, even more.

Constitution of India has provisions to safeguard animals but most of us may be unaware of the laws compassionate lawmakers have passed to safeguard animals.

For wide-scale action to be taken, it is important for us to acquaint ourselves with the existing animal protection laws, so that loopholes can be filled-in, and the laws can be made to be properly applied.

The guest speakers on the panel are activists and fierce promoters of social justice and animal rights. Through their work, thought and everyday interactions they relentlessly work on making our world a better place.

    • Ms. Arti Surendranath - Actor, Producer; Influencer; Devoted to Animal welfare
    • Ms. Ambika Hiranandani – Lawyer and Animal Rights Activist
    • Mr. Meet Ashar - Associate Manager, Emergency Response Team at PETA India and Advisor to Maharashtra Animal Welfare Board
    • Ms. Priyasri Patodia - Co-Founder and Owner of Priyasri Art Gallery

The panellists will share their insights on how they are striving hard to fight against the inhumane actions with law and make social quotient of awareness towards animal welfare and rights.

While it's true that our laws need to be stricter and fines to be revised, we need to be aware of these laws to protect our animals and keep offenders in check.

    Day:       Wednesday
    Time:   3:30 p.m. onwards
Venue:   Walchand Hirachand Hall, 4th floor, IMC Bldg.

“The Case That Shook the Empire” by Pushpa and Raghu Palat is a thrilling story of how one Indian fought for the rights of millions living under the British rule and gave crucial impetus to the Independence movement in India.

The story is about a man, Sir C. Sankaran Nair, who worked hard and grew to be a reputed a lawyer and later a judge in British India. Appointed to the Viceroy’s’ Executive Council in 1914, he was the only Indian representative then in the British Indian government. Yet without any hesitation he threw up his eminent position of power to expose the injustices of the British and went on to fight a lone case in the Court of the Kings Bench in London against a prominent English official who he believed was responsible for the horrific massacre in the Punjab. It was this case that for the first time made the world aware of the atrocities committed by the British and the truth of Jallianwala Bagh.

Mr. Raghu Palat, the great grandson of Sir Nair, with his wife Ms. Pushpa Palat will recount their journey in co-authoring this historical novel.

    About the Authors

Mr. Raghu Palat is a leading writer on banking, finance and investments. He has been writing for major financial newspapers, magazines and journals for the last four decades and has over 45 published books to his credit.

Ms. Pushpa Palat commenced her career as a freelance journalist writing for major newspapers.
